This means that the pest bird will only move to just beyond the unit's effective range rather than be scared away from the area completely, as in the case of a bird screr. Therefore optimal positioning of the unit is critical for success. Consider using multiple units to avoid "sound shadows" where birds can hide. Avoid siting the unit in a psoition where the pest birds could perch along side, above, below or behind the unit, unless a second unit is used to protect these potential perches. This system will not deter pest birds if they are already nesting, or have nested on the site in the past. Nests will need to be cleared and all traces of organic or fecal matter will need to be washed away using a suitable disinfectant such as PX Ornikill or Guanaway prior to installing the unit. Positioning of Balcony Guard On balcony installations up to 10m in length, for best results use 2 units on opposite walls facing each other, one positioned 225mm off the floor, and one positioned 225mm above the handrail. If budget only allows one unit, mount it high-up in the corner looking diagonally down across the balcony for best results. Effective distance up to 10-meters in line of sight from the speaker. Ultrasound does not travel through or around solid objects. Think of the speaker output as a laser beam, if the speaker can not "see" the pest bird then the pest bird will not be affected by it. PLEASE NOTE - These units can be heard by a small number of people depending on their hearing range. The 8m oval dispersion needs to be considered when siting this device.
