Compression fittings are used to connect both plastic and copper pipework in hot and cold systems. They are useful when hot works would be problematic. Compression plumbing fittings consist of an inner 'olive' or compression ring and an outer compression nut. When the nut is tightened, the olive is compressed between the nut and the pipe, sealing the space for a watertight connection.
