Japanese anemones are one of the most useful, resilient and high-performing of garden perennials. Flowering from August until October, they are invaluable for delivering months of late summer colour. Wide, saucer-shaped flowers with a central green button surrounded by golden yellow anthers are carried on tall, graceful stems above mounds of three-lobed leaves. Planted in groups, they produce an abundance of airy flowers that dance in the breeze, associating beautifully with other late flowerers such as Aster, Rudbeckia and Hydrangea. Their informal style suits cottage and wildlife gardens. They also make excellent cut flowers.
