The floor is also tongue and groove clad for a more water-resistant, long-lasting construction, and the roof is solid sheet Oriented Strand Board (OSB). This Shire playhouse includes a dip-treated base coat as standard, with a top coat available as an option for a stronger, golden brown finish. This Double Storey Playhouse does not come pre-painted, giving you a blank canvas to personalise to your children's tastes. The manufacturer recommends applying a water-based top finish of your choice to prevent the lumber from deterioration and so extend the life of the playhouse. Shire garden structures are built using high-quality ship-lap tongue and groove construction. This is distinct from the fast-growing timber used on lower-cost shelters from other manufacturers. The use of tongue and groove construction ensures that the building is more protected from the weather. The wood used is a slow-growing continental hardwood. Slower growth implies tighter grain, more strength, and a longer life. The Casita has a solid planed 35mm x 35mm (1 1/2' x 1 1/2') framework (walls and floor) that lends strength to the garden home. The shed floor is built of high quality 12mm planed tongue and groove matching pattern boarding. The shed's apex roof is built of 12mm tongue and groove panels and roofing felt. The shed's walls are built of high grade 12mm thick softwood planed tongue and groove shiplap pattern boarding. The windows are morticed and tenoned appropriately. They have an entrance, a profile, and are weather resistant. The window has a distinctive contoured 'lip' that covers the aperture of the panel opening, making it weather resistant. There are two levels of opening on casement stays. The glazing is 3mm horticultural glass, which is not used as standard by many other manufacturers. All glazing is held in place by pre-mitered contoured beading (no awkward corners to be cut). The doors are ledged and have a padbolt. All Shire garden buildings are pre-treated on both sides with a golden brown water-based industrial solution (colour can vary from the picture shown). It is suggested that you apply a water-based top coat of your choice. This will keep the lumber on your shed from weathering, allowing it to last longer, and will need to be repeated as needed.
